Risk Management Is The Cornerstone of Motorola Solutions’ AI Innovation
Paul Such, Sales Director EMEA for Video Security & Analytics at Motorola Solutions, highlighted that the company presented advanced security technologies at Intersec Dubai 2025, featuring AI-driven solutions, state-of-the-art cameras, and innovative devices like Halo. Their robust presence in the Middle East underscores a strong commitment to regional growth and innovation.
What would you like to say about the Intersec this year?
It’s fantastic and looks amazing. Intersec is one of the most significant events globally and likely the largest outside North America. It’s an incredibly impactful show because it attracts end users. Our customers make it a point to attend, and Dubai adds to the appeal for attendees from other regions. They don’t just visit Dubai; they dedicate time to the event, exploring new products and engaging with our sales team. We consistently achieve excellent results from this show.
What is the highlight of the show this year for Motorola Solutions?
Some of the key highlights we’re showcasing at the event include our Avigilon Unity end-to-end solutions featuring a full range of cameras and the Pelco camera lineup. We’re also presenting recent innovations from our latest acquisition of Silent Sentinel. This military-grade camera can identify anomalies from up to 30 km away to extend the perimeter of security and support a faster, more informed response. It’s a highly unique and powerful product that has gained significant traction. When integrated with our software, it delivers an incredible user experience.
We’re also showcasing Halo, a revolutionary device that, as you aptly described, enables “seeing without eyes.” It’s designed for environments where cameras are not allowed and detect vapes, ammonia, gunshots (though less relevant here), noise disturbances, and even antisocial behaviour through specific shouted keywords. It resembles a smoke detector but provides a wealth of AI-driven insights, alarms, and actionable intelligence without capturing visual footage. It’s truly a remarkable product.
How are you incorporating AI into your products?
We have always been at the forefront of artificial intelligence, particularly in the realm of video analytics. Even in the early days, we prioritized secure and robust video analytics solutions. As our focus has evolved towards AI, our primary objective remains the same: to enhance our products’ intelligence and responsiveness to safeguard individuals and assets within a given property. Recognizing the immense workload of operators managing extensive security systems, we prioritize streamlining their workflow by directing their attention towards critical events.
Our AI algorithms meticulously analyze video feeds, assessing the status of each scene to identify potential alarms, alerts, health and safety concerns, or unusual behaviour. These potential issues are then flagged accordingly. This is embodied in our “Focus of Attention” feature, where cameras are represented by hexagons on the screen. The colour of each hexagon signifies the camera’s status: black for quiescent, blue for alert, and red for alarm. Operators can swiftly access live footage from any camera by simply clicking on the corresponding hexagon. This seamless interaction between technology and the end-user is paramount.
Furthermore, our system integrates with Motorola radio solutions and the innovative Noggin software, enabling comprehensive reporting and data analysis. Recognizing that unforeseen challenges can arise in areas like health and safety or security, we leverage AI to proactively identify and alert users to potential issues before they escalate into critical incidents. This proactive approach to risk management is a cornerstone of our ongoing AI development and investment.
Given the critical role of data security, how do you ensure the confidentiality and integrity of video data throughout its entire lifecycle?
Data security is paramount in our systems. We focus on securing network data transmitted from cameras. This data is highly encrypted throughout its journey. We leverage the advanced encryption algorithm of Avigilon Alta, featuring keys that refresh every 20 seconds, significantly hindering unauthorized access. Avigilon systems adhere to rigorous security standards and comply with industry best practices. Our products undergo extensive testing in diverse locations globally, consistently meeting the highest security benchmarks, including those within Motorola.
Recognizing the critical role of data security, IT managers and their teams, including data privacy specialists like those concerned with GDPR compliance, are key stakeholders in security system procurement. To ensure comprehensive protection, we implement robust security measures, including encryption algorithms, throughout our entire software and transmission infrastructure, even when data is stored on-site.
What are your key markets in the region?
The Middle East represents a significant market for Motorola Solutions, with a strong presence in countries such as UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. We maintain a consistent level of investment and consistently achieve success within these markets, driven by a highly skilled sales team and a portfolio of exceptional products. Recognizing diverse customer needs, we offer two distinct camera lines. Our Avigilon cameras are primarily designed for new “greenfield” projects, providing a complete end-to-end security solution. Conversely, Pelco cameras are strategically positioned for customers who already utilize platforms like Genetec and are seeking to upgrade their camera infrastructure. This dual-brand approach allows us to effectively cater to the varied requirements of our customers across the Middle Eastern market.
How do you see Motorola Solutions’ market in Africa evolving?
Motorola Solutions actively engages in the African market, with dedicated sales teams operating across the continent. We divide our operations, with North Africa and Egypt managed from our team in Turkey, while the remaining African regions, excluding North Africa and Egypt, fall under the purview of our South African team. This reflects the globalized nature of our operations. Despite the challenges inherent in certain African markets, Motorola Solutions maintains a strong presence, leveraging its established position across the continent. Our portfolio, encompassing video security, access control, and enterprise products, is actively marketed and supported within these markets. Furthermore, we foster strong collaboration and integration between our various business units to provide comprehensive and effective solutions to our African customers.
Will we see you back next year at the show?
Intersec Dubai has been a resounding success for us. It consistently attracts a high volume of visitors, including system integrators, distributors, end-users, and prospective customers, providing valuable opportunities for our sales team to engage and showcase our products. We are delighted with the show’s impact and look forward to participating in Intersec Dubai again next year.
